Bands Influenced by Hüsker Dü
One of the bands that was influenced by Hüsker Dü was The Pixies. The Pixies put an ad that read: "Band seeks bassist into Hüsker Dü and Peter, Paul & Mary." The Pixies' songs sounded a lot like Hüsker Dü. The Pixies' main songwriter, Black Francis, was a huge Hüsker Dü fan, and he said that he was influenced by Hüsker Dü. Hüsker Dü also influenced Nirvana, and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic said, "What Nirvana did was nothing new, Hüsker Dü did it before us." Green Day is another band influenced by Hüsker Dü. Billie Joe Armstrong, the front man and songwriter of Green Day, said that he was influenced by "A lot of Minneapolis bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements." Green Day also covered one of Hüsker Dü's songs, "Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely." The Foo Fighters were also influenced by Hüsker Dü. They were started by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. In an interview, he said, "No Hüsker Dü, no Foo Fighters." He has also played with both Bob Mould and Grant Hart and invited them onstage to play Hüsker Dü songs.
